A Body - جسد by Al Saddiq Al Raddi

A Body - جسد
by Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi

The body of a bird in your mouth
breathing songs.
Raw light spills from your eyes,
utterly naked.
You must breach the horizon, once,
in order to wake up.
You must open window after window.
You must support the walls.

I let alphabets cling to me
as I climb the thread of language
between myself and the world.
I muster crowds in my mouth:
suspended between language and the world,
between the world and the alphabets.
I let my head
listen to the myth,
to all sides praising each other.
And I shout at the winds from the top of a mountain.

Why does my tongue tell me to climb this far?
What is the distance between my voice and my longing?
What is there?
A body transcending my body.
A body exiled by desire.
A body sheltered by the wind.

Places - Emad

PLACES
by Emad

All places miss you
and the eyes where your shadow were drawn
and the motions which took my soul to you
it's not me only dear all places miss you

Everything arround me remind me with something
even my voice and smile to you there is something
if the whole world disappear you will be with me
can't you see what happen to me when I remember you?
the places all of them miss you

When you are not with me all voices melt in the emotions
because of your turture nights torture the silence which is inside me
till I became afraid of that day makes my heart dried
and makes all my branches dead
darling I wish you knew how days steal the life and pass
peace where is the peace
my heart forget the taste of peace since you left
why whenever I ask the place I hear the past says :
it's not me only honey, all the places places miss you

The places where you passed through are living in my soul and I want it
but I couldn't find you
you came to my mind before the perfume gets cold even before melting in silent words
and I have been waiting for you
I have been thinking that the wind brought you
your scent touches me
I have been thinking that the yearning brought you
just to sit with me for a moment
I have been thinking and thinking and thinking

Finally I'm diappointed and there is nothing in life
and insoite of all I'm still waiting
all places miss you miss you

Translation:

Come closer and come to me
Come closer, my heart misses you
Make me closer for the nights and the passions
And come after all the separation
My love,
How many times my heart melted come closer to me

If you know what happened to me
The passion of the night defeated me
And made me drink the bitterness of alienation,
Aaah my love

Aaah, my passion doesnt finish
I`ll not live after you not even for a day

Come closer, my heart misses you
Make me closer for the nights and the passions
And come after all the separation
My love,
How many times my heart melted come closer

My love, my happiness is when you are close to me
And your love doesnt have an end
Come back and take me with you
Would you come back and take me with you?

Come closer, my heart misses you
Make me closer for the nights and the passions
And come after all the separation
My love,
How many times my heart melted come closer

What's the Solution

How you forget our love and leave
and the heart is wounded
ah from you ah ,you took my soul

Tell me why you left me
away from me ,what changed you
my darling im afraid ,afraid of asking you
you are my sweetheart, only you only

And me ,I don’t have feeling to another one
I don’t think that I’ll love another one next time
my heart after you never beats anymore
if you stay with me ,stay with me and never go
whats the solution ,no one can see you, whats the solution

No ,its not you who said that we will stay together
and protect me from the disloyalty of love
you are my sweetheart, only you only

And me ,I don’t have feeling to another one
I don’t think that I’ll love another one next time
my heart after you never beatsanymore
if you stay with me ,stay with me and never go
whats the solution ,no one can see you, whats the solution

And me ,I don’t have feeling to another one
I don’t think that I’ll love another one next time
my heart after you never beats
if you stay with me ,stay with me and never go
whats the solution ,no one can see you, whats the solution

And me ,I don’t have feeling to another one
I don’t think that I’ll love another one next  time

Wisdom and Benefits of Ramadan Fasting

Wisdom and Benefits of Ramadan Fasting
By: Yulio Adi Candra

1.     Ramadan Fasting is one of the islamic's pillar
Ramadan fasting is one of the pillar of Islam. By fasting during Ramadan, there will be relationship between human being and God. Doing fasting in this era is considered as the absolute time to ponder one's self from the worldly duties that never ends.

Thus, fasting during ramadan is one of the particular media, not only reduce the emotion but create good bond between human being and God also.

2.     Fasting for better health

Many people do not want to do fasting because they are afraid of being sick if they do not eat and drink all day long. One thing that must be remembered is that many researches prove that fasting is one of the effective ways to increase human's health and it makes life longer. The reduction of consuming unhealthy food is one of the reason.

The possibility of doing fast during ramadan makes the digestive system take a break and it also clears up the toxic (unhealthy food) that one's consume in daily life. Thus, fasting is often voiced as healing and and tissue repair.

3.     Strengthen the Relation of Family and Community

In daily life, it is often that one family has a difficulty to gather all members, however during this month there will be more time to get along, at leat at the time of suhur and iftar including praying together and reading Quran after Taraweh.

In social life, ramadan is a month that everyone shows their solidarity. For those who never meet with their     partners, they will aften gather at tarwih praying or when preparing the event of iftar together with orphans.

4.      More Thankful

There are so many people wish that they want to see the next ramadan, so there is no reason for those people to thank to God. In Islam, thankful is one of the gratefulness to God on his virtues.
The sense of grateful can be felt when one's realizes that he or she can relish the dish at suhur and iftar, do praying with healthy body, share anything with the people in need (giving alm), have a family and relatives that love each other.

5.     Learn to be more humble

When Ramadan arrives, people will realize how they depend their lives on God's blessings to survive and has humble nature. Everything people have is a surrogate of God. It will not be worth that everything we have is just for showing off, vanity, and haughty.

When one's does fasting, he or she will learn how to refrain the haughty and vanity, become a humble person, respect to others, not be selfish. Those are the aims of Islam's morals.

6.     Increase Compassion and Sharing

Eventhough one's has much money and property, however all of those are the surrogate of God that must be kept and shared to the people in need. The affection and the sense of sharing with others also become one of the important foundation in Islam.

If it is seen further, how many people who hold in hunger and starve. When one's enjoys delicious food for example, he or she will question that whether the others can relish this dish or not. He or she will realize to share the affection to others.

7.      Practice to Discipline

Count how many times in daily life you think bad to others, even voice bad remarks that directly hurt others. When ramadan arrives, one's will learn how to control him or herself from the bad thoughts and remarks. In addition, one's will learn to make him or herself to be more discipline.

8.      Learn how to live in a simple way

Islam loves beauty and simplicity. Something that's exagerrating and excessive are detested by God. During this month, one's will try to not show off of worldly, even he or she will learn that praying is the relation one's self and God and not for showing off.

When one's can apply the simplicity in daily life excluding ramadan, life will be more comfortable. No more envy and jealousy. By simplicity, one's can be more thankful to his or her God.

English:

What are you thinking about, my love?
And why you are silent?
It's only one word and it will just take one second for you to say it...
And capture my heart
Say it at least with your eyes

What are you thinking about, my love?
And why you are silent?
It's only one word and it will just take one second for you to say it...
And capture my heart
Say it at least with your eyes

I'm not myself anymore and I'm calling you
Once again, I will say that I'm ready to die for you
No matter what will happen, I will live for you
What's between us is love

I'm not myself anymore and I'm calling you
Once again, I will say that I'm ready to die for you
My eyes wont sleep at your nights
I hope that I can sleep for one night only

It's no big deal and your problem is that you think a lot
"I Love you" is a simple word,
Why should it take this long?
It's no big deal and your problem is that you think a lot
"I Love you" is a simple word,
Why should it take this long?

I'm not myself anymore and I'm calling you
Once again, I will say that I'm ready to die for you

Ramadan

The Virtues of Ramadan

Before we go thorugh to the main discussion, we should understand what ramadan is. I’ve writen the definition of Ramadan itself to this blog, so I may not talk too much about it. Well, this is the theorem of Ramadan based on HR. Khuzaimah “Ramadan is a month which is full of patience and the return is heaven. Ramadan is a month of compensation that Allah opens the gate of blessings widely. For those who give any food to the fasting people, they will be forgiven for their sins and freed from the shackle of the hell and also they will be given blessing which is same as those fasting people without decreasing the blessing of  those people.”

Here are some virtues of ramadan, eventhough there are still many virtues during this month.

1. The appearance of Leylat El Qadr that is much better than nights of thousand months. Usually this night is sigened by the comfort that is sensed different from the other nights, the night looks lighter and no rain. During this night, we are recommended to pray due to the great blessing that we will get. This night is only one time and available in ramadan, however some theologians voice that Leylat El Qadr occurs among the dates of  23rd, 25th,27th,and 29th.

2. The second is that being shackled to all the seniors of demonds and devils. In this month, we have a little bit freedom from those things. By shackling those evil creatures, people have no doubt to do good and wise things during ramadan.

3. The next is Allah opens all the gates of heaven and closes the gate of the hell. It will be the good thing that all of our prays will be accepted by Allah. Out of ramadan, this thing only happens on Monday and Thursday.

4. During this day, sleeping is counted to be a pray. As far as we know, sleeping means a lazy guy. But during this month, it is not. However do not be too much, it is better reading Quran than too much sleeping.

5. The next is that every breath is counted as a tasbih (Franco : Tsbee7). We never stop breathing everyday and for these special days, Allah will make our single breathe as a tasbih. What a great blessing!

6. The sixth is that our prays will be multiplied a thousand time by Allah. Thus, during this month, increasing the worship such as giving alm/sadaqoh (franco: sada2), etc. It will be very great. Every alm that we give, it is multiplied as 1000 blessings. The great amount that we have during ramadan.

Translation

No matter what you and repeat our love is bigger than this

I love her till I saw her nagtive sides and there is no sweeter than this

I'm closer than the sun and the shadow and honestly I always tell her

She calls me, the miunte I call her that's what I'm wishing for

Her balmes are sweet when I'm at her door and there's nothing sweerter than this

The sweetest thing in love is her torture even if she started

I'm closer than the sun and the shadow and honestly I always tell her

She calls me, the miunte I call her that's what I'm wishing for

No matter what you and repeat our love is bigger than this

I love her till I saw her nagtive sides and there's no sweeter than this

English:

If only I could, If only I could, forget you and live in peace
If only I could bring back the past
The days of forgotten games
And tell you I could, but oh, I really can't
Get you out of my heart and sight

If only I could, If only I could, forget you and live in peace
If only I could bring back the past
The days of forgotten games
And tell you I could, but oh, I really can't
Get you out of my heart and sight

What was it that made me meet you tonight
Forget about everything and the world forgets about me

What was it that made me meet you tonight
Forget about everything and the world forgets about me
I sit and talk to you

Perhaps it's neither your fault nor mine
Perhaps we are but a game
Our story bears the name of estrangement
It was written and flooded
And I tell you that I could, Oh, how I wish I could
Get you out of my heart and sight

Your parents have fallen asleep and left us
Forgotten on this seat
They took away sleep and left us
Wide awake till the morning

Your parents have fallen asleep and left us
Forgotten on this seat
They took away sleep and left us
Wide awake till the morning

We exchanged the blame, we reconciled, we were patient
We drew the wind in our arcades
We grew up then were little again
We revived forgotten stories

And I tell you that I could, but I can't
get you out of my heart and sight

If only I could, If only I could, forget you and live in peace
If only I could bring back the past
The days of forgotten games
And tell you I could, but oh, I really can't
Get you out of my heart and sight

The Ways that Rasul Did during Ramadhan

The Ways that Rasul Did during Ramadhan

Ramadhan is a holy month which is full of blessing and virtue. Muslims are recommended to gain its virtues as much as possible. If we expand a little further on what Rasul did in ramadhan. We will find some ways such as:

1. He always beetles to fulfill and do all virtues, like praying in Jamea way, sonnah, giving alm, reading Quran, etc. He voiced “if the first night of ramadhan is coming, all satans and jinns are shackled. The gate of hell is closed and the gate of heaven is open widely. It is also voiced: To all people who crave much blessing and virtue, come and get it! And to all who do not want it, just be lazy!” (Imam Al-Turmuzi).

2. Narrated by Salman, that some day at the begining of Shaban, Rasul voiced “To all of his followers, having come to you all the great month, full of blessings, there is a night that is better than a thousand month inside ramadhan, it is an obligatory to do fasting, and is recommened to liven up its night. So anyone who does the virtues during this month , as if he/she does a command in another month and anyone who does a compulsory worhip, as if he /she does  70 times its obligatory in another month.” That’s the blessing of doing sonnah worship that its virtue is same as doing a compulsory worship, while the compulsory worship itself will be multiplied as 70 times of virtues.

3. He (Rasul) is very generous. He like to give alm and also give food to the fasting person. Narrated by Imam Al-Bokhary that Rasul is the one who is the most bountiful mainly in Ramadhan. It is depicted that he is just like soft breeze, carrying much blessing and sowing happiness to all muslims.
He is also depicted that he is very large-hearted, even he never denies any demand that submitted to him.

4. He did much prayer mainly when he is about to break the fast. He voiced that it is the right time to do prayer (read surrahs, Quran, etc) when iftar is about to come. And the prayer that he did is that he said “Ya Allah, just because of you, I do fasting and through your blessings, I do iftar. Having gone the thrist, however I am still thristy of your blessings and virtues Ya Allah.”

5. He always did tadarus (reading Quran). Every single night, Jibril always came to meet him and read Quran together. The wisdom of his tadarus is that persuading his followers to read Quran, particularly everytime in Ramadhan or in the night after doing night prayer or tahajud.

6. Rasul increased his prayer mainly at the last ten days of ramadhan, it was done to gain the night of Laitalul Qadar. Abu Hurairah narrated that Rasul voiced “anyone who does prayer during this night with full of loyality and hope, Allah will pardon the sins that he/she has done.” As we know that doing prayer during this night, it is same as we do prayer during thousand months. And the most prayer that is voiced is that Ya Allah , you are the great merciful, bountiful and also forgiving. So forgive all my mistakes and sins Ya Allah.

Narrated that anyone who does maghrib and Isha prayer together (Jamea) at the night of Lailatul Qadar, he/she has got largely of virtue of Lailatul Qadar. Another narration said that anyone who does prayer Isha together at the night of Lailatul Qadar, he/she has completed a half of its night and anyone who does prayer together to its Subuh, he /she has completed fully the night of Lailatul Qadar.

Those are all things that Rasul did during Ramadhan which is basically, he taught all of his followers to be more serious to gain the virtues such as doing the obedient, prayer, etc mainly social worship like helping another one, decreasing one’s burden of life, giving alm to an orphan. Besides it, Rasul taught his followers to avoid and get away of the deed of munkar, makruh, mubah and haram. Even he advised his followers that anyone who does not leave his bad and dirty deeds, his/her fast is useless, he/she does not gain anything except thrist and starve. Thus the way Allah multipies our acts of worship.

Translation

Go, it doesnt deserve to cry
Our story became a memory
No, we cant talk about yesterday
And we cant talk about tomorrow
Believe me, its not possible to love you
I cannot think about you
I dont want your heart to suffer
Enough tears and sorrows for you

I swear I have a lover
who taught me how to love in a crazy way
This world is a fate and destiny
We cannot be together

I hope youll find the love
Which will want to stay beside you
And forget how this heart suffered
Enough that you remember whatever you want

Go, it doesnt deserve to cry
Our story became a memory
No, we cant talk about yesterday
And we cant talk about tomorrow
Believe me, its not possible to love you
I cannot think about you
I dont want your heart to suffer

Enough tears and sorrows for you

APPLIED LINGUISTICS - CONTRASTIVE ANALYSIS OF PREPOSITION IN ENGLISH AND INDONESIAN LANGUAGE

A.    Introduction
Preposition is a word placed before a noun or pronoun to define its relationship with  another word in the sentence. The name of preposition (pre + position) means “place before”. Prepositions usually come before another word, usually a noun or noun phrase.
In english, If a preposition does not come before another word, it is still closely linked to another word, for example: “Who did you insist on?”, “On whom did you insist?”, “I insisted on you.” However, many prepositions can be functioned as adverbs, for example: I am in class and please come in. The first sentence, the word “in” roles as a preposition but the second sentence, the word “in” roles as an adverb. A few prepositions can also be conjunctions, for example: All students did the assignment but you and I summoned him but he did not obey. The first sentence there is a “but” that functins as a preposition but the second “but” of the next sentence roles as a conjunction. While in Indonesian Language, the using  of preposition is almost the same as english, such as antara (between) like tidak ada hubungan khusus antara kamu dan dia (There is no special relationship between you and him), oleh (by) like surat itu di sampaikan oleh pak pos (the letter was delivered by the postman).
B.     Discussion
1.      Contrastive Analysis
According to Lado’s statement in Linguistics across Cultures about contrastive analysis is “predict”. When a systematic comparison of the two languages has been made, the similarities and differences are revealed. One can then predict the learner’s difficulties, because they will be in the area of differences between the two languages, and there will be no learning problems where there are similarities. The view of what contrastive analysis can contribute to language teaching has been referred to as the strong version of the contrastive hypothesis. (Kia, 1975: 86-87).
2.      Kinds of Preposition
Preposition itself can be devided into two characters, one-word prepositions and complex prepositions. One-word preposition like, before, into, on, etc. Complex preposition is a phrase of two or more words that function as one-word prepositions, for example: according to, in spite of, etc. Here are the examples of one-word preposition and complex preposition
One-word Preposition
Complex Preposition
In, On, At, Beside, Behind, Under, Between, Among, After, Before, With, Without, About, Along, Above, Below
By, To, For, From, During, Through, Toward(s), etc
According to, Because of, On account of, Owing to, In front of
In addition to, In spite to, In spite of, Instead of, On behalf of, A head of, Along with, A la (From French), Next to, As well as, Away from, etc

One-word preposition:                        Complex preposition:
a.       He is in the kitchen.                a. He is getting sick because of you.
b.      He can live without you.         b. She is standing in front of me.
c.       I am at home.                          c. According to Martin, Abdul was late.
Similarly, in Indonesian Language, the using  of one-word preposition is same as english, such as berada (right)
Ø  English      : he is right here.

Ø  Indonesian            : dia berada disini.

However, in producing the complex prepositions, many indonesians get difficulty on how to differenciate it.
See these sentences
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
1a.
His house is next to my house.
1b.
Rumahnya berada di sebelah rumahku.

In english, the preposition of “next” is “to”, however, in Indonesian Language “next to” means “di sebelah.” But for those who have difficulty in putting the complex preposition, they may say that “his house is next behind my house”, it is because in bahasa “behind means di sebeleah” however in english, there should be “to” after next. Both sentences have the same meanings but in english, the construction is different from bahasa. Then the preposition of “because of”, in bahasa ”because of” means “karena” and the meaning of “because (conjunction)” itself is also “karena”.
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
2a.
He lives because of you.
2b.
Dia hidup karena kamu.

The sentences “he lives because of you” and “he lives because you” both sentences if they are translated into Indonesian Language, they have the same meaning, however in english, the second sentence is wrong because in indonesian, the word “of” has no meaning while in english, there must be put “of” after “because” due to its a preposition.
The next example is that the preposition of “up to”.
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
3a.
The boxes must be filled up to the last.
3b.
kotak-kotak itu harus di isi hingga yang terakhir.
For those indonesian people who have not recognised the meaning of “up to”, in indonesian language, it can be meant that “up” is “on” and “to” is ”for”.
Then, the difficuly of using prepositon is not only in complex preposition but also the using of verb and adjective forms that are followed by certain prepositions. For example:
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
4a.
he laughed at me.
4b.
He laughed about me.

The verbs followed by certain preposition: he laughed at me, there should be “at” after laughed, however indonesians get confused on what suitable preposition is after laughed. People may say “he laughed about me”. In Indonesian interpretation, the meaning is same but in english, the preposition after laughed itself is wrong. In bahasa, there is no preposition like that. “he laughed at me” means dia menertawakan saya.
Translation:          dia=>he,
 menertawakan=>laughed,
saya=>me,

the sentences above, it can be seen that “at” is meaningless in indonesian language. Another example is that “wait for” in sentence
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
5a.
Wait for me!
5b.
Tunggu saya!

as it can be seen that indonesians mostly forget to put the preposition of “for” after the verb “wait.” In indonesian language, “wait” means “tunggu” and there is no preposition after “tunggu”.
The second example is that the adjective forms that followed by certain preposition like “afraid of” and “different from.
See these sentences
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
6a.
She is afraid of tiger.
6b.
Dia takut dengan macan.

In Indonesian context, “afraid” means “takut” while “of” means “dari.” However if we translate “dari” into english, it means “from”. For indonesians, it may look strange that the preposition of “afraid” is “of” because the meaning will look wierd in bahasa. So they may replace it with “dengan”, in english, it means “with.”
Ø  She is afraid of tiger (english translation).
Ø  She is afraid with tiger (indonesian language translation).
In bahasa, the meaning of She is afraid with tiger is correct, however the construction of english preposition is not. It must be “she is afraid of tiger.”
Then another example is “Different from”.

            See these sentences
No.
English
No.
Indonesian
6a.
Ali is different from Ala.
6b.
Ali berbeda dengan Ala.
In bahasa “different” means “berbeda” while “from” means “dengan.” However, in indonesian translation, if we translate “from” based on the word itself, “from” means “dari”, while “dengan” means “with”.
Ø  Ali is different from Ala (english translation).
Ø  Ali is differenet with Ala (Indonesian Language translation).
Indonesians often use the preposition “with” when have to say something different, like “Ali is different with Ala”. In indonesian’s translation, the meaning is correct, however in english, the preposition of “with” must be replaced with “from”. These differences preposition of both languages often make indonesians confused on how to distinguish which suitable preposition is.
C.    Conclusion
The using of prepositions in english for Indonesian learners depends on what kind of prepositions are. When they have to put one-word preposition, it may not be a problem, because the construction is mostly same as bahasa. However when they have to put complex preposition, verbs, and adjective forms followed by certain prepositions, it can be a problem because in bahasa, most words do not consist of certain prepositions at the beginning and at the end of the words.
